The pleasure of welcoming Pius to our school

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming Pius to our school. In Uganda he works as a chef but, through his church and charity work, he invites young children who live on the streets of Kampala to join his group where they are fed, cared for and educated. His calles them his «Freedom Boys and Girls», and it is his way of paying back the community who helped him as a young boy when he ended up on the streets after many difficult years during his childhood.
It was very interesting and inspiring to hear his story and experiences, and in his talks with 2º and 4º ESO, and also in 1º Bach, he answered questions about life in Uganda, his journey and his visit to Spain.  We would like to thank Gloria Maria and the English Department for organising this experience

Summer Camp 2018

Un curso más, el Colegio Internacional John Henry Newman organiza el Summer Camp, un campamento de inmersión en inglés con talleres, piscina, deportes, excursiones en el que aprenden de forma natural y divertida.

El Summer Camp Newman tendrá lugar del 25 de junio al 13 de julio y está dirigido a niños y niñas de 3 a 12 años.

Clash of Titans on John Henry Newman Radio Station!!

Last week some of 4th ESO students have become quick -witted reporters and rebellious VIPs  for the speacking project of this term . Their goal was to choose controversial celebrities to interview them thoroughly about the most polemic events in their lives.

Last week our audience  had the great chance to meet three of the most powerful Titans of Politics nowadays: Kim Jong-un, the supreme leader of North Korea, Donald Trump, President of United States of America and Vladimir Putin, current President of  Russia  in our famous programme «The  Ellen Degeneres Show » :
 
All of us enjoyed ourselves  very much with all those tangled situations!!

Master Puppeteers have come to Newman School!

2nd Bachillerato students have given us a great time with their 2nd term speaking project. It consisted of becoming puppeteers and making up funny stories and modern fairy tales.
They had to change their language registers and tones of voice in order to get  their audience involved.
We actually got a buzz from these shows!! Congratulations!!

Someone needs to invent it!

Can a student enjoy taking an exam? Our students of first of ESO can! Nowadays we have access to all kinds of stuff. It is possible to find absolutely everything we may think of, right?… or maybe not.
English teachers bet there is something super cool our students can come up with that really needs to be invented, and there are plenty of ideas: body SD cards to learn anything instantly, a pet translator, a multipurpose pillow… We’re about to find these inventions out!

3rd. ESO Graders visiting Auschwitz Exhibition in Madrid

3rd ESO graders are visiting an authentic portrait of the complex reality of the camp and the world of victims of the Holocaust. This visit is related to the book they are reading in English: The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

They are actually discovering an extensive set of objects which reflect one of  humanity’s darkest periods in European history so that they can learn what happened in the past and ensure that this will never happen again.

Auschwitz Exhibition

Más de 70 años después de su liberación, Auschwitz continúa siendo hoy en día símbolo universal del Holocausto; uno de los episodios más oscuros de la historia reciente, que se saldó con el asesinato de más de 6.000.000 de inocentes a manos de la Alemania nazi de Hitler.

Ahora, la primera exposición itinerante sobre Auschwitz y sus repercusiones históricas y humanas, recorre el mundo para acercar su compleja realidad a millones de personas y esclarecer, en un viaje intelectual y profundamente emocional, cómo ese lugar llegó a existir y el modo en que su existencia afecta aún hoy a nuestra visión del mundo.

El Centro de Exposiciones Arte Canal de Madrid se convierte así en escenario de la presentación mundial de la exposición, que muestra en primicia mundial más de 600 piezas originales, y numeroso material fotográfico y audiovisual inédito. Este será su único destino en España.

Auschwitz. No hace mucho. No muy lejos. ha sido creada por Musealia, en colaboración con el Museo Estatal de Auschwitz Birkenau y más de una veintena de reputadas instituciones internacionales coleccionistas privados e, incluso, supervivientes de la Shoah.

El rigor histórico de cada pieza de la colección está certificado por un equipo multidisciplinar de expertos e investigadores designado por Musealia, encabezado por el historiador Dr. Robert Jan Van Pelt, y el equipo de historiadores del Museo Estatal de Auschwitz-Birkenau liderado por el Dr. Piotr Setkiewicz.

La exposición Auschwitz permanecerá en el Centro de Exposiciones Arte Canal de Madrid, primero de sus 14 destinos mundiales en Europa y Estados Unidos, del 1 de diciembre de 2017 al 17 de junio de 2018.

Proyectos orales en 2º de ESO

In 2ºESO the students have been preparing role plays based on their favourite characters to make a “SuperMovie”. It’s your only chance to see Batman and Captain Jack Sparrow on the same screen!

Recycling project in 1ESO

1ESO has worked on recycling projects to make people aware of the importance of taking care of our planet. They designed recycling bins that we are sure will look appealing to little children, so they will get used to recycling. Also, they have made advertising posters and a TV commercial.

El Colegio Newman y el San Ignacio impulsan la ESCUELA DE VERANO BE EDUCATION

Del 3 al 14 de Julio tiene lugar en Madrid la ESCUELA DE VERANO BE EDUCATION, cita imprescindble para docentes que quieren aumentar la calidad de su enseñanza para hacer frente a los nuevos desafíos de la educación. Impulsada por el Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola (Torrelodones) y el Colegio Internacional JH Newman (San Blas), la ESCUELA DE VERANO BE EDUCATION ofrece once cursos de formación con temáticas de relevancia que cuentan con reconocimiento de créditos por la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos I y totalmente bonificables a través de los Permisos Individuales de Formación (PIF) de la Fundación Estatal para la Formación en el Empleo.

La argumentación, la neurodidáctica, sacar partido al cine para enseñar Física y Química, crear un blog educativo, un canal de youtube, aprender con iPad, enseñar con arte, la gamificación, las herramientas didácticas que ofrecen la magia y el origami o las rúbricas están en el centro de los temáticas que pueden profundizar los profesores en estos cursos.

Los cursos tienen una duración media de veinte horas, algunos se imparten en inglés y otros en castellano. La sede de los cursos son los dos colegios San Ignacio de Loyola en Torrelodones y John Henry Newman en San Blas.

La ESCUELA DE VERANO BE EDUCATION forma parte de los cursos de formación permanente para el profesorado de Be Education, una realidad educativa que organiza numerosos workshops y cursos de formación, visitas guiadas para equipos directivos y colegios, o el Congreso #CBE16 “Competencias trabajo: desafíos para la escuela de hoy”.

Entre los objetivos está mantener un diálogo público sobre cuestiones de interés así como buscar, promover e impulsar las experiencias educativas y métodos más interesantes e innovadores,  tanto a nivel tecnológico como metodológico.
