We consider mealtime of great importance in the education of our students. For this reason, we promote good eating standards, and we select menus with a great variety of food, always seeking nutritional balance. In addition, the dining room is a space for enjoying one another´s company.
J.H. Newman School has its own kitchen for the development of menus that also are reviewed on a monthly basis. There are several types of menus offering the diets necessary for those students who suffer from allergies and intolerances.
The company responsible for making the menu of the school every day is Scolarest.
Supervision in the dining room and the playgrounds is carried out by teachers of the centre and auxiliary staff selected by management, in order to cater to the students according to the educational criteria that make up our project.
For students of Secondary Education we offer a full varied menu, consisting of two first-course and two second-course options to choose from, in addition to dessert. All our dishes are cooked with olive oil, and we have a wide variety of options: rich dishes, salad buffet, and our popular Happy Fridays (burger menu).
Extended Hours

The extended hours service are offered only to students from the 1st year of Early Childhood Education up to Year 6 of Primary Education. Families that need to extend the hours will have a breakfast and a snack service included.
Breakfast and snacks
Breakfast is offered to the students from 7:30h a 8:30h and snack is offered from 17:00h to 18:00 h.
You can choose from a varied assortment in both salty and fresh, with pieces of fruit, cereals, toast with oil and milk. There are different options for intolerances or food allergies.
Nurse’s office

The Centre has a nursing service that provides first aid in the event of accidents and emergencies involving any member of the student body and educational community.
The nursing service at International School of J. H. Newman aims to meet the health needs of the students. In addition to responding to health incidents in a timely matter, it also develops health promotion and prevention of diseases and risky behaviors, focusing on nutrition, personal and environmental hygiene, accident prevention, first aid, sexuality education, substance use, etc. In the event of any health concern, the nurse communicates with the family and advises them to speak to the appropriate medical specialist.
The service of nursing school is characterized by:

Regulations on administration of medication
In the rules of Health on the administration of medicines in schools (according to the approval of the Royal Decree 954/2015 of 23 October), it is recommended not to manage them in the school. For this reason, it is important to schedule your child´s medication dosis at the times that the children are at home with you.
In the case that it is essential to do so in the school and in order to be able to manage them in the school schedule, the family will be required to present a signed authorisation which shall specify:
The data of the student, the medication, the time of administration and the dose to be administered during school hours. The form can be downloaded from the Family Portal.
Photocopy of the e-prescription or prescription or a medical report that will accompany the authorisation form.
Both the medication and documents must be delivered directly by the parents or guardians to the School Nurse. If the student is enrolled in early morning extended hours, you can leave it with the corresponding auxiliary staff. No medication will be administered without the above-mentioned conditions.
Educational Psychology Department

We have a volunteer service providing support and assistance to the students of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education. It aims to identify the needs and difficulties of students in order to recommend the most appropriate psychopedological and learning strategies for each child.
Newman Cafeteria
The Newman Cafeteria is one of the most vibrant meeting spaces at the school. We offer a breakfast service and a daily special. Additionally, we host gastronomic events, and on Wednesdays, we feature a special toast menu. The cafeteria is open to the public, not just to the students of the school.
Our regular hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 16:30 PM.
There are two entrances: one external door from Avenida de Guadalajara, 28, and another entry from inside the school, through the Secondary School hallway.

Newman Libraries
Newman has a bright and spacious library for studying.
PRIMARY EDUCATION
The library of Primary Education opens three days a week during morning recess and is staffed by teachers who help the students to choose the books that are more appropriate to their age and reading level, select books, and acquire new titles. Activities to encourage reading, such as hand puppets, storytelling, book exchange, etc are also organised.
EDUCATION SECONDARY AND HIGH SCHOOL
From the 1st October to the 31st of May, the library is open from 15:15pm to 17:00h for CSE and Baccalaureate pupils who do not have class. It is also open on some weekends in which we organise days of study. We also have a book lending service.
Newman Chapel
International J. H. Newman School has a chapel where the Eucharist is celebrated daily before the start of school hours. It is open to all members of the school community and anyone from the surrounding area.

All students must wear the International J. H. Newman School uniform. It is for sale at El Corte Inglés in Campo de las Naciones, where families have a more complete service (comprehensive schedules, tailored service to each family needs and bonuses or specific discounts). El Corte Inglés is the exclusive supplier.

Newman AMPA
The AMPA (Parents’ Association) is a non-profit association that brings together and institutionally represents the fathers and mothers of the School. It acts as a partner to the school, addressing and proposing various issues that affect or are of interest to the entire parent community in the education of our children.
What does the AMPA contribute?
AMPA actively plays a leading role in the life of the educational community, integrating into the school's educational project support and initiatives.
Training
Through School of Parents we organize very interesting talks and conferences for the whole educational community.
Scholarships
The AMPA contributes financially to the social assistance fund and scholarships for students.
Cultural and Educational activities of the College
We support and collaborate in the events organised by the school, such as the annual Nativity scene , the literary competition, the sports marathon, sports days, and the end-of-year stage play.
